The original buildings on this site date back to 1831 and are the last remaining evidence of the Market Square in the Town of York.  Working with the Provincial Heritage Branch, a program of restoration and new construction was implemented which maintained the essential character of the original buildings, while providing a new and vital street presence.  In 1986, the Toronto Historical Board conferred its Award of Merit for the design and construction of the project.
